White hat SEO is a practice used to improve search performance that is in line with the terms and conditions of a search engine.

While Black hat SEO refers to a set of practices that violate the search engines’ terms of service.

Why Is It Important to Know the Difference?

Although both have the same goal in mind and each has the potential for success, they are extremely different strategies. White hat SEO is what you want to employ in order to build lasting success and trust among your readers.

Black Hat SEO Techniques to Avoid:

Keyword Stuffing:

This technique is used to fill a page with as many different keywords as possible to trick the search engine into thinking the site is relevant to the actual search.

Link Farming:

This refers to a group of websites that enable the use of hyperlinks to link to each other’s page for the sole purpose of increasing their rankings.

Gateway Pages:

The practice of showing the search engines one thing, and then directing people who click the link to a different page entirely

These are not the only black hat SEO strategies, but hopefully, you get the idea. While these strategies can gain your page a better ranking faster, your page will always get banned in the long run if you employ them.

What Are White Hat SEO Tactics?

Relevant Keyword Use:

Create your website with keywords and key phrases in mind. Research keywords and key phrases you think people might use to find your site.

Value:

By providing, helpful, honest, valuable content and products to visitors, you will effectively keep them coming back continuously. Search engines will notice and place your site at the top.

Making your site easy to navigate:

The more user-friendly your site is, the less amount of bounce rate it will have.  A low bounce rate means higher SEO rankings.

Which One Is Right For You?

Definitely white hat, because the black hat is never recommended.
